            He has obtained 8 patents and has filed for 12 more patents. PONNEEM, an ecofriendly botanical pesticide was developed by him; it has a patent and trademark. Millions of farmers are using it regularly to control insect pests and promote beneficial insects. He has also developed natural pesticide against mosquitoes. He has multiplied endangered medicinal plants through tissue culture and planted them in natural habitats. He has documented the traditional knowledge of tribal people and Siddha healers. He has identified many molecules to control diabetes, cancer, inflammation and obesity. Many antibacterial and antifungal compounds have been discovered. He has carried out 40 major research projects funded by Government funded agencies. He is invited by many international scientists for conferences and classes. Many international journals solicit him for manuscripts.
            He was the Principal of St Xavier’s College, Palyamkottai and Loyola College, Chennai. He was the Vice Chancellor of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and University of Madras, Chennai. At present he is the Director of Entomology Research Institute, Loyola College, Chennai.As Principal and Vice Chancellor he made a mark in administration, and reforms like introducing teacher evaluation by students, establishing poor student’s, scholarships, introducing choice based credit system; including Semester system of study with credits, compulsory Social service scheme, and transparency system of handing over the photocopy of all answer papers to the students.
            He served the common people through his research and publications. More than 60,000 farmers were given training on sustainable agriculture. More than 40,000 school and college students were made agents of environmental protection. He has trained self-help group women in vermicomposting, biopesticides preparation and mushroom cultivation. He has helped many non government organisations to mitigate the problems of girl children and elderly people. He helped them to establish children homes and aged homes.
            He is a University Rank holder in B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. He has the highest degree D.Sc. He has published more than 650 research papers. He has written 65 books. He has written books in the fields of biotechnology, bioinformatics, bioethics and environment. He has also written books related to value education, personality development and spirituality.  His books are used in Universities and Colleges.  He has helped 50 students, to get doctoral degree. His papers have been cited more than 10,000 times by scientists internationally.

He also received Kamarajar Award from Government of Tamil Nadu for Environmental Management. He was Emeritus Scientist of UGC, CSIR, and ICMR, New Delhi. He is a fellow of Royal Entomological Society, London and National Academy of Agricultural Science, New Delhi. He is a Visiting Professor in many Universities. The applicant got second rank in B.Sc., and first rank in M.Sc., from University of Madras. He got outstanding merit in M.Phil., and Ph.D., from University of Delhi. He got D.Sc., from University of Madras. He is one of the very few scientists to acquire this degree. He was Vice Chancellor of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and University of Madras, Chennai. He was the Principal of Loyola College, Chennai and St Xavier College, Palaymkottai. He is the director of Entomology Research Institute, Loyola College, Chennai. He had postdoctoral training in Germany, Switzerland, U.S.A. and Japan. He is a visiting scientist to many Universities in the world.He has carried out already more than 40 major research projects funded by government agencies. He was Member, Biotechnology Board, Government of  Tamil Nadu, Member, Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu,He received Best Book Award given by Tamil Nadu Government for the book on Environmental Awareness and Pollution Control, Tamil Nadu Scientists Award TANSA given by Tamil Nadu Government for Life Sciences in 2000 for the work on Genetic Improvement of Edible Legumes,  Karmaveerar Kamarajar Environmental Award 2008 for Environmental Management awarded by Department of Environment, Govt. of Tamil Nadu. He also received  M.K. Nambiar Memorial Oration Award, 2002, by Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists, Chennai, Rotary Award for Vocational Excellence, 2003, by Rotary Club of Madras North and Chennai East, Chennai, CEED Best Educationist Award, awarded by Centre for Education and Empowerment of the Downtrodden, India, 2006, Loyola Alumni award for life time achievement in 2010, Satyagraha Best Educationist Award, 2011, Awarded by Satyagraha Movement and Life-time Achievement Award given by His Excellency Dr. K. He was Member, Executive Council, University of Hyderabad, Member, and Executive Council of University of Nagaland. To overcome the ill effects of chemical pesticides he developed biopesticides to control insect pests, stored grain pests, termites, mosquitoes, etc. He has developed transgenic rice and chickpea and legumes such as pigeon pea, cowpea and cereals such as pearl millet, finger millet and maize for fungal resistance and stored product and field insect pests. He has developed tissue culture plants of many endangered plants and transplanted them in their natural habitats. He has carried out extensive survey in the medicinal plants used by tribal people in Tamil Nadu and documented them with their uses. He has also screened some of the plants in the control of diabetes, cancer and inflammation and identified some lead compounds. He has also screened many plants for the antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties.
His scientific research has also reached the common man. Different oil formulations and botanical pesticides were given to 60,000 farmers to be used for sustainable agriculture.  40,000 school children have been made agents of environmental protection. He has trained many self-help groups to prepare Vermicompost, bio-pesticides and cultivate edible mushrooms. He has helped many Nongovernment organisations to take up the plight of girl children and their education. He Introduced choice based credit system, dual degree programme, counseling center and placement cell, many job and skill oriented courses, internal marks component, teacher evaluation by student, student scholarships, Biotechnology as a subject of study in colleges and Universities, restructured UG syllabus with skill orientation for all subjects, introduced foundation courses including value education and extension services in colleges.

Dr R Padmapriya obtained the Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS) from Government Siddha Medical College, Tirunelveli in 1992. She also holds the Postgraduate Diploma in Counseling and Psychotherapy and Diploma in Cosmetology.

Dr. Padmapriya has more than 20 years of experience as a Siddha consultant and is the proprietress of Amruthi Ayurvedic Pharmacy & Clinic in Velachery. She is the president of Centre for Traditional Medicine and Research, Chennai. She specializes in the treatment of diabetology, muscular skeletal problems, skin disorders, pediatric care, adolescent gynecological issues, and prenatal and postnatal care. She combines modern diagnostic tools with traditional and holistic techniques for treating patients with chronic and life-style diseases, and stress related behavioural disorders. In addition, Dr. Padmapriya is also well versed in herbal cosmetology, mind-beauty techniques, and anti-ageing therapy.

Dr Padmapriya has carried out research in herbal nutrition and dietetics for periodical, routine, balanced day-to-day health upkeep and preventive therapy.

Currently she is writing a column in “Dhina Thanthi” Sunday edition on herbal foods which are well received by public.
She has written many articles in magazines and papers and delivered talks on Ethnic and Traditional Food on the principle, ‘Food is Medicine and Medicine is Food’
